Lord-willing, we can go back to walking the TOL in 2021 just like we always have, but for this situation we are stuck in together, the Peppermint Parkway is a fun family experience you shouldn’t miss.An Austin staple, the Austin Trail of Lights transforms Zilker Park into a vibrant celebration of the spirit and people of the city. I would highly recommend you check this event out while you have the chance. We rode the carousel and got a funnel cake, making it an enjoyable family event. Everyone wore masks and were distanced so we felt safe while allowing our kids some time to walk around. It was great!Īfterwards, we parked and walked around the COTAland kiddie area. You enter onto an actual F1 track right in front of the grandstands and a pace car leads you on a leisurely lap around the track. We also purchased the lap around the COTA track which was super-fun for everyone. There were performers in each area including roller skating fairies, an acrobat, and an EDM sequin-studded Santa! The kids especially loved the part with a long line of blow-up Santa “bendies” that danced to Christmas-themed dance music, then you drive through a Christmas dance-club tunnel, and finally you emerge into an actual snowstorm! It was a beautiful 20-minute or so drive through the trail with many different themed areas, each more fun than the last. We skipped the long lines with it and didn’t have to wait at all. It is well-worth it to purchase the express pass. Took the kids last night and we had a blast! It was very well run and all of the personnel getting into the trail were so nice. Don’t understand all of the negativity for the Peppermint Parkway.
